Garfield by Saint-Gaudens

Garfield

The bronze portrait bust of the martyred James A. Garfield by Augustus Saint-Gaudens was erected in 1896, 15 years after the president's assassination. It is strangely dated in concept when seen in juxtaposition to these groups of later sculpture.

Continuing north alongside the river, we come to the Ellen Phillips Samuel Memorial of America's history.
