I recently discovered an "1840 Bank Note" from the Bank of the United Staes. It's numbered 8894, which I understand is a souvenir version of the note. How would I learn if it has any value as an antiquity??

Although I realized it was an excerpt from an old history book, I was much bothered by your calling native Americans (the ONLY Americans in existence, not even I am one) 'Indians', and saying they were practically bystanders. And you need to mention what Penn's son(s) did, or at least say it is believed that they destroyed the treaties signed by Penn with the natives, which is what made Philly such a success (granted by God for not stealing the land, as most others did in north america). But your history has been interesting for my paper on 'democracy and religion', which states that Quakers becoming a minority in Philly made it a city of warmongers. When you mention places to visit, you don't mention ANY Quakers- but you DO mention Ben Franklin, definitely a warmonger. What did he have to do with making Philly a success? He wasn't even born when the good foundation for the city was built.

Our ancestors were major contributors to the early church... Premick, Premich, = Primmer. They were also main factors involved with the first US CATHOLIC ORPHANAGE - if history serves correctly, donating land to produce it upon. Matheus, John Adam and Leonard Michael Primmer. So little is known of this fact today.

The 7 virtual tours are great, but I have a suggestion. As someone who visits Philadlephia from time to time I would value a "printer friendly" version of each of these tours. This would enable a visitor to print out a tour, bring it along and follow the tour on foot.

Thanks for the great site - just discovered it by accident. We're going to Philly for two days and of course always enjoy the usual visitor attractions. But, are always looking for the "real" story in the cities we visit. Thanks for showing the how to get off the "beaten path" for a change!

For the past 14 years I have researched the History of a Family that was said to have come from Pennsylvania; I would like to know if you have any historical documents concerning the oathes from 1630-1749 by immigrants that landed at Philly? Frantz Welchel was said to have signed an oathe at the port of Philly. Also an immigrant by the name of Stockton whom was said to have signed an oathe in Philly, Pa. 1656-1739? Any positive proof accepted for immigrants to Pa.

This was the central base of the United States during the American Revolution against the British continued colonisation in America. The next generation must never forget that this city was built against English occupation of USA.

That a beleif in a higher authority is bigger than they are. We are all in answer to someone and something. Our history, our concepts are all based on that principle. The saved letters, the doctrines, its history all proven it. We are a free people, to live and learn and to become the best we were meant to be.

I am told that my Great Grandparents are easily traced directly to George Duffield--I hope that is true.

As I begin my new year 2005 I have discovered some interesting facts on the Whelchel Family History in America. As stated in earlier recordings there was a WELCHEL family member named Frantz. An obit of Bertha Welchel from Indiana has been discovered. Her husband was John David Wesley Welchel/Whelchel. John D.W. Whelchel is listed in the 1910 Indiana Census. The Indiana Welchel/Whelchel/Whetchel family is currently being researched by a fifth great grandaughter of Dr.Francis (Frantz) Welchel/Whelchel. This research has proven that one Davis Welchel moved from Charelston South Carolina to Indiana 1787. This Welchel/Whelchel family member has many ancestrial family connects to the Colonial periods of the United States. 1624 Elizabethtowne finds the earliest Ann Stocton. I hope proof of the Joseph Stockton Family comes to Life soon.

I happily stumbled on your site while searching for info on family history in PA. Our family survived many challenges and changes. Could you include more info on Native Americans and mixed ethnic/racial heritage in the region and the merging of pioneers to the pre-existing population and the resulting blending. We have very little documentation of heritage just oral family history. Thank you.
