President's House: Freedom and Slavery in Making a New Nation
April 23-May 3, 2010
Independence Visitor Center
North Wall
The City of Philadelphia will have the proposed exhibit plan on display at the Independence Visitor Center from April 23 through May 3, 2010. This display will present the imagery and other visuals that are intended to make a powerful impact on the site's visitors. The purpose of this display will be to gather opinions from the general public. Comment cards will be available to fill out and submit. As a 24/7 open-air commemoration, we would like to encourage the residents and visitors of Philadelphia to look and comment.
The President's House project is a permanent, outdoor commemorative installation, to be placed on the footprint of the President's House, directly adjacent to the Liberty Bell Center. It is scheduled for completion and dedication in fall 2010. Through architecture, landscaping, imagery and interpretive text, this installation will tell the story of the birth of a free nation and indefensible slavery existing side-by-side.
