I agree with Inga Saffron ("Let's not throw dirt on the city's history," May 25) about the archeological dig at President's House. Along with the revelations of slave quarters and the possible model for the Oval Office, the building's foundations represent the foundation of American democracy and is a national treasure.
Covering over this historical discovery would be a tragedy.
Look at the interest in the site already. Properly promoting this landmark along with Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the Constitution Center, Elfreth's Alley, the Betsy Ross House, and other attractions should garner enough donations and grants to cover the cost of its preservation. Philadelphia decision-makers need to break out of their inferiority complex in showcasing the city.
