Letter: Wonderful plan

Following years of intense, sometimes necessary, harsh debate, the National Park Service and the participating dedicated individuals, organizations, and institutions should be congratulated on their design selection for President George Washington's residence during the time Philadelphia was the temporary federal capital from 1790 to 1800 ("Honoring other founders," March 2"). It will now properly honor all of the residents who occupied it and nearby dwellings.

The beautiful design by Kelly/Maiello Architects & Planners for the site near such national icons as Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell will provide an excellent addition to the historical interpretive and educational activities experienced by the thousands of visitors. As a Philadelphian and a member of our region's cultural community, I am pleased this project has been brought to fruition, and I know it will provide an invaluable message to all that view it in the final constructed form.
