Inquiry of Sullivan's Performance

On the 14th Washington also learned that Congress wanted to recall General Sullivan based on his performances at Staten Island and Brandywine. Washington wrote back asking to postpone the inquiry as he was hard-pressed for officers at the present time. Congress agreed to delay the inquiry for now, wherein Washington assured them he would hold the examination as soon as possible. Once Sullivan learned of Congress's intention, he himself requested an inquiry.
