The Ferguson Rifle
Patrick Ferguson was inspired by the "boasted skill of American marksmen." He invented the first breechloading rifle used in the British army and secured a patent on December 2, 1776. Not only was his rifle deadly accurate, but it had a high rate of fire. Another advantage was its dependability in warm weather where standard rifles could not be counted on.
