Letter: Bicyclists vs. skateboarders
Philadelphia Magazine writer Noel Weyrich (could there be a surname more synonymous with that publication's readership?) criticized the editorial boards of the Daily News and Inquirer for their support of LOVE Park skateboarders. This is the same man who, as president of the Bicycle Coalition of the Delaware Valley, lobbied for the city to spend $3.7 million for a signed network of over 200 miles of bike lanes.
I don't begrudge the bikers their lanes, I'm happy for them. What I don't understand is why Mr. Weyrich, so insistent that everyone share the road with bikers, is so vehemently opposed to sharing LOVE Park with skateboarders. The Logan Square Neighborhood Association supports the skateboarders, a majority of City Council supports them and over 6,000 people have signed a petition in favor of reopening LOVE Park to skateboarders.
The editorial boards of the Daily News and Inquirer are in sync with the wishes of the park stakeholders.
Mr. Weyrich is not.
