Lazaretto Station is one of the most significant historic sites in the United States. Tinicum Township is building a fire station, community hall/evacuation center, and parking lot on the site. This is destructive for many reasons. The development would:

1. Severely impact the aesthetic appeal of the historic building(s) and obscure the public’s principal view of the site.
2. Disturb the historic ground of the remains of the smallpox hospital and other structures, and where scores of immigrants seeking a new life in America were buried

A cooperative of historic groups struggled to preserve the Lazaretto Station, its buildings, its grounds, and its multi-layered history.
