SECOND FLOOR HALL
- Degn use and paint finish
- Original features
- Compare to multi-functional 18th century first floor hall
The hall remains virtually intact from its construction in the 18th century except for the Degn plaster put on in the 1920's. Originally there was no door to the garret stairway; the present door was added c. 1850. The Degn finish in this hall is white woodwork with the iron hardware painted black. The Degns used this space mostly as a passageway and as storage space. You can contrast this with the multi-functional first floor colonial period hall. The hall is nicely decorated with a number of prints and a large clothes press. Originally this hall, like the one on the first floor, may have served as living space in addition to being a passageway.
