Merchants Exchange![]() Location of first Stock Exchange 3nd St. In 1752, Robert Morris and Thomas Willings founded the first stock exchange at the London Coffeehouse on Second and Market Sts. They moved it to the City Tavern, where Gen. Washington is supposed to have traded stocks. In 1832, the exchange moved to the first real trading building in the country, the Merchants' Exchange Building on the corner of Third and Walnut. ![]() Clickable map |
