Fanlight, Pilaster

fanlight
1. fanlight (blue)
A semicircular window over the opening of a door, with radiating bars in the form of an open fan. Also called sunburst light.

2. pilaster (red)
Decoratations that look like pillars but do not actually give any support.

The fanlight and pilasters here ornament the rear entrance to Carpenters Hall. The pilasters are built into the moulding around the doorway.
