Letter: The wrong prescriptionAt a frustrating two-hour meeting on the future of the 259-year-old Black Horse Inn in Flourtown, Springfield Township officials painstakingly pointed out the virtues of yet another plan to ravage our community. Interested citizens packed the room to show support for the inn; the property had just been taken over by yet another developer. We felt as if we had a second chance at preserving the inn as the focal point of our bucolic community.
The plan now calls for a Walgreens drugstore, instead of the earlier proposed CVS drugstore, and a liquor store with office space on the second floor.
Where is it etched in stone that we must be plagued with a super-size chain store and a super-size liquor store to the the detriment of local merchants? A more user-friendly solution would be to leave the inn in place and use it for the public, surrounding it with attractive individual shops and landscaping with a colonial theme.
