Fight to Save Historic InnFORT WASHINGTON, PA Angry protesters are braving the rain in Montgomery County because of a new development they say will destroy a piece of history.
They are trying to save the Black Horse Inn.
They are holding their rally in front of Walgreens offices in Fort Washington, PA because the store is proposing building a super drug store on the property where the old Black Horse Inn currently sits.
The inn was built in 1744 and sits on a piece of property in Bethlehem Pike near many other businesses.
The developers have said they would be willing to move the historic inn to another location, but that's not good enough for the protestors.
They say removing the inn from its original site diminishes the historic value of the building. Also, they say, the inn sits on the only green area along Bethlehem Pike.
They would rather see smaller stores that have a more historic, village-like feel so that they fit in with the surrounding area.
