Upon review: no flags at half-staff
CEDAR CITY — Upon further review, the Iron County Commission decided residents should not fly flags at half-staff in honor of 10 citizens of Iron and Washington counties that were killed in a plane accident Aug. 22, according to a release from Iron County officials.
The commissioners had passed a resolution that authorized flags to be flown at half-staff, but upon review of U.S. Flag Code, decided it would not be proper to lower the flag in honor of the plane crash victims.
There are specific times when the U.S. President or the Governor has the authority to order the flag lowered, but only in specific instances, which the plane crash does not fit, according to the release.
The release states that the commissioners grieve the loses, but "we believe proper respect for our flag must be maintained — no matter the circumstances.
