Regents say schools must follow US flag code -- chicagotribune.com
DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Board of Regents is requiring the state's public universities and other regents institutions to strictly follow the rules of etiquette for flying the American flag.
Regents President David Miles says there have been questions raised regarding the proper display of U.S. flags at institutions governed by the board. He says it's become customary to fly flags at half-staff to honor people who have made significant contributions to the institutions' missions.
However, Miles says the flags should only be lowered upon the order of the U.S. president or Iowa governor.
The Board of Regents voted during a meeting Thursday in West Des Moines to require that regents institutions follow the requirements of the U.S. flag code.
