Army Without Shoes & Supplies

Though shoes were difficult to come by, sometimes had to do with Quartermaster's department. This department was responsible for supplying shoes, clothing, and food. But under Thomas Mifflin, the department had ceased to run properly. An American observed: "While the army was suffering...for want of shoes &c. hogshead of shoes, stocking and clothes were in different places upon the road and in the woods, lying and perishing, for want of teams and proper management."
