i really like this site. it has helped me a lot with my research project for school. i think it is very interesting that Jefferson complains about the houseflies from the stables next door when he should be complaining about this huge document that he had to write that will affect the entire world later on. that sounds like something that someone that had some small project due would say.

The United States Declaration of Independence is an inspiration to all peoples of the world, regardless of gender, race, religion, creed, political beliefs, gender identity and sexual orientation. We cannot forget about the rights of people to life and protection of life, to be truly free and to pursue happiness. We cannot forget, of course that happiness includes the right of a person to seek and marry a person she or he loves, whether of the opposite gender or the same gender.

How could a man of such great importance still not be given the respect and gratitude of a nation that does not appreciate the sacrifice that he and the other founding fathers eagerly laid down for each and every one of us. Why as children in school were we not told of his greatness, the gratitude that each of us should hold for such men. We are told that he was the second President, the first Vice President and so forth. I dare you to find a text book in America that illustrates the inport of this man, I dare you to find a professor or high school history teacher that understands the depth of the orchestration Mr. Adams had in molding and forming the freedoms that allow them to spew forth their hatred for this country at every chance they are able. This was a great man, with very few equals in the history of this or any other nation.

My father is a direct decendent of Edward Rutledge, and it has been rather interesting to read the historical data about him. You have done a great job of identifying the factual information on your site. I find it interesting to see that one of my sons looks much like his forebear. He hasn't seen this picture of Edward but will be surprised at the sameness of their features and build. Thanks much for a most enjoyable and interesting set of articles.
Kathy, Wisconsin Resident, have been to Middleton Place several times, the home of the first wife of Edward Rutledge, my father's grandfather immigrated to the US from England, his daughter (my father's aunt) often told me, as a child, to "hold your head high; you are a direct decendent of Queen Victoria." Another interesting fact about my family, but, alas, a genealogy gathered by an old relative has been long ago misplaced -- or never finished. [05-03-2008] »»»

Thank you, for giving me the opportunity to benifit from the interest of such a website. There are many ways to express the gifts given from our, once in a life-time gifted, Masters of Freedom. It is easy to say, Democracy Works;Every Day. And, with so much sacrifice: Trust,Priciples and Integrity, one hopes that it should be present in mind and represented in deed, always.
this is a awsome site to visit but if anythingyou should make the document larger when you print it out!

I have always admired John Adams. His love for was amazing. His integrety and honesty was unshakeable, his faith in GOD and his country Unmovable. Too bad that today's politician will not use John Adams as a role model...He is before my eyes and without a doubt a HERO.

Amazing how many of the reasons given are similar to GWBush policies. Posit Comitatus? Sending mercenaries to war? Depriving assent to laws on freedom to be naturalized?

I would like to know from this excellent web site,if our great founding father Thomas Paine, was the REAL author of the Decleration of Independence instead of Thomas Jefferson ?

This is a good site. But why are the Halifax Resolves not mentioned. As this was the first official action by any of the 13 colonies.Calling for independence. And what about the Biennial Act.North Carolina played an important part in the effort to make these United Colonies.Come together. Both are the steping stones to independence.

what a shame that our country has tried to get a way from our national heritage. this country was built on integrity and honesty, and where is it in today's society.
