I've always been interested in history, but this is the first time I've taken the trouble to read the actual text of the US Declaration of Independence. The language the author uses is nothing short of awe-inspiring, enough to stop people in their tracks and make them listen. How many politicians and leaders in the English-speaking world today could write something so compelling? Precious few.

My grandmother, Martha (Thornton) Moppin was a direct decendent of Matthew Thornton. I have newspaper clippings of the Thornton reunions that were held in Kansas, beginning about 100 years ago. The reunions were Huge - so many people met each year! They would always tell the family history and add new information - birhts, deaths, etc. There would be a prayer, then a meeting lead by the president, and election of new officers for the next summer's reunion. I have fond memories of this event as a girl in Kansas. The tradition continued deminishing rapidly until my Grandmother's death in 1991. They then voted to rename it the Moppin reunion.

I wanted to read the Declaration of Independence as well as our Constitution because I feel very strongly that Bush and Cheney (with Karl Rove's shady and highly questionable behind the scenes manipulations) have betrayed the people of America with their arrogant and increasingly transparent lies and disgraceful disregard of our country's Constitution. I believe we will see honest, competent and compassionate leaders in this country in the future. Men and women who fully understand that they are "Public Servants". That they "work" for the people. All the people. Not just for the wealthy. What has happened in this country, particularly in the past 6 years is so very disheartening.

In reference to the entry for the Currency Act of 1764, it's not accurate information. In fact, the currency system in place in the US at that time, utilizing the scrip, was working well, as Franklin even commented. England was in debt (because of the central bank) and decided to have the colonies foot the bill. Also, the colonies, in printing their own money, didn't have to pay interest to anyone. The bank(s) in England were not about to have that, realizing that Franklin figured out the money issue(s) and circumvented them out of the equation. These are what enraged the colonies and was arguably the basic reason for the American Revolution.

The Founding Fathers of America WERE Freemasons. Some were members of the Illuminati. They all had land holdings back in the "Motherland". Is there a chance that they were never really true colonists but rather Royalists in disguise? Was the Constitution created by them any more significant then any other Constitution? The answer to that is NO! If you or I created a Constitution and called it the "Law of the Land", who would be bound to it? Only you or me! Not any one else out there except those who swore an OATH to UPHOLD IT!
