LAPD apologizes for ceremonial flag goof
LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles police have apologized for a patriotic goof — hanging the American flag the wrong way.
The Police Department's new downtown headquarters opened Saturday with ceremonies that included draping a huge flag on the side of the building.
However, the flag was displayed with the stars facing right. U.S. flag code says a flag displayed vertically should have the stars on the viewer's left.
The Los Angeles Times says dozens of readers pointed out the mistake after seeing a photograph of the flag in Sunday's paper.
The LAPD issued an apology on Monday. Lt. John Romero says no disrespect was intended and the department will be more careful next time. Wed Oct 28 2009 14:08:02 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time)
