Those responsible for building the President's House memorial on Independence Mall will spend this week mulling over public comment on the project, including comments made during a sometimes raucous meeting last Friday night (see previous story).
The President's House Memorial Exhibit Team and the Oversight Committee are meeting this week to determine the final content of how the stories of those living in George Washington's mansion, both white and black, will be told. Spencer Crew is a historical consultant:
"It's exciting that people care. We want to be conscious of the fact that this is a very important history that we're telling."
Some have expressed concerns that the brutality of slavery will be soft-pedaled in the project. Designer Gerald Eisterhold:
"History also does not tend to make everybody happy, but we are restricting ourselves to what we can identify as historically accurate in this project."
